Cardboard Catapult

1. 1

   Bundle the base

   Stack 5 popsicle sticks. Wrap a rubber band tightly around each end. That's your beam.

   Make the arm

   Take the last 2 sticks. Rubber-band them together at ONE end only, forming a V that opens.

3. 3

   Combine base and arm

   Slide the beam between the arms of the V. Push it up close to the rubber band. Wrap another band in an X across the join so the arm springs back down.

4. 4

   Attach the spoon

   Tape or rubber-band the plastic spoon to the top of the top arm. The bowl faces up.

5. 5

   Test fire

   Load a marshmallow in the spoon. Pull down, release. Watch it fly.

6. 6

   Aim challenge

   Set a bowl 5 feet away. Land 3 marshmallows inside. Adjust the arm angle if you keep missing.

7. 7

   Modify one thing

   Longer arm? Tighter rubber band? Change one variable, test 3 shots, note what happened.
