The one-match challenge is won BEFORE anything is lit — in the prep. On this quest the Sk8er is the fire-lay engineer, and the grown-up is the only person who touches a match.
A grown-up runs the risky part of this quest. You prepare, observe, and learn the principles.

safety · This quest is grown-up-led. The Sk8er never carries, strikes, or holds a match, lighter, or burning stick, and never stands closer than an arm's length once there is flame. Tie back long hair, no loose sleeves, no fuel or accelerants of any kind, never on a windy day, never indoors.

These steps belong to the grown-up. Grown-up leads.
1. Own the site and the water
Choose a legal, safe fire pit or cleared dirt circle. Check local fire rules and wind. Put a full bucket of water and a shovel or stick within your reach before anything is lit.
2. Inspect the Sk8er's fire lay
Before any flame: check the clearance, the three wood sizes, and the teepee. Say out loud what you'd change and why — that conversation is the real lesson.
3. Hold and strike the only match
You carry the matches the whole time. You strike it, you touch it to the tinder, you blow at the base. The Sk8er watches from an arm's length back and calls what they see.
4. Tend the flame
You add kindling and fuel wood, and you decide when it's big enough. The Sk8er hands wood TO you; they never reach over the fire.
5. Put it out completely
Water, stir the ash with a stick, water again. It's out only when the ash is cool enough to touch. Never walk away before that.
